VITICULTURE AND OENOLOGY ENGINEERING

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Viticulture is of primordial importance in Portugal, due to its excellent potential for producing quality wines. In order to nurture the development of this vital industry, we must stimulate the flow of expertise by training highly specialized technicians as, in fact, the professionals in the sector are demanding. This degree answers that call. Thus, it proposes to provide the theoretical knowledge needed in order to generate solid solutions whilst also fomenting a climate of dialog between teachers and students. This climate of openness should extend to the organisation of seminars for other professionals in addition to students who might take immediate advantage of the exchange of information that we hope to encourage.

OBJECTIVES

It is a general objective of the Master in Engineering of Viticulture and Enology to provide in-depth technical and scientific training in the area of Viticulture and Enology, fostering synergies between Education, Research, Production and Industry.

The following are specific objectives of the Master Course in Viticulture and Oenology Engineering:

  • Design, plan and manage the different wine-growing and oenological practices, depending on the predefined characteristics of the final product;
  • Understand the natural and technological factors that condition the characteristics of the raw material;
  • To know the technical-scientific principles governing grape production and wine processing;
  • Develop a row strategy, integrating the characteristics of the production, the variables of the transformation and the conditions of commercialization;
  • Develop experimentation in the company, creating new products and optimizing processes.

STRUCTURE

The cycle of studies leading to the Master’s degree in Viticulture and Oenology Engineering is composed by:
