MATHEMATICS
STRUCTURE
The Doctor’s Interuniversity degree in Mathematics is awarded in association with the University of Coimbra. This cycle of studies has the duration of eight semesters, corresponding to 240 credits ECTS, consisting of a curriculum component, with 60 ECTS credits (corresponding to a non degree Doctor’s course) and the development and presentation of a thesis with 180 ECTS credits associated.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have obtained an academic degree in Mathematics (or related area) of one of the following types:
- Master’s degree (second cycle of higher studies in the Bologna system of the European Union);
- Bachelor’s degree (4 years or more, in the pre-Bologna system);
- Another degree considered, in legal terms, equivalent to some of the previous ones.
Candidates who are expected to meet the above requirement before the planned start date for the program are also accepted. If accepted, admission is conditioned to the achievement of one of the required grades.
Exceptionally, candidates whose scientific, academic and professional curriculum can attest to the degree of doctor may be considered candidates. It is the responsibility of the Coordinating Committee of the program to assess whether these special conditions of admission are satisfied.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Curriculum Vitae of the candidate (100%)
- Academic transcript, including averages for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. (75%)
- Possible complementary training in Mathematics; Existence of relevant publications or works; Letters of Recommendation. (25%)
Candidate tie-breaker criterion:
- Classification attributed to each of the evaluation sub-criteria in the order:
- The evaluation of the school course,
- Complementary training.
