COMPUTER SCIENCE
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Doctor’s degree program in Computer Science aims to promote excellence in advanced studies in Computer Science,training professionals able to develop and apply their scientific knowledge in areas that lie at the forefront of Computer Science. Former students that graduated from this Doctoral Program have been making their careers, both in academia and companies,national as well as international. The teaching staff, mainly members of the Department of Computer Science FCUP, is highly qualified and associated with active research centers, publishing and regularly and with impact. Teachers collaborate on national and international projects.
STRUCTURE
In the Doctor’s degree in Computer Science the first year is probatory. The candidate will be assessed by a committee consisting of leading academics in a public exam, after a conventional full-time research period of 3 years.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- To join the Doctoral Program, the candidate must meet the conditions established in article 30 of Decree-Law no. 65/2018 of August 16, and also those explained in article 5 of the General Regulation of the Doctor’s degrees of the University of Porto .
- Applicants must still have a good command, both spoken and written, of the English language.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Curriculum vitae (50%)
- Work plan presented (25%)
- Training of candidates in the area of Computer Science (15%)
- Advisor’s opinion (10%)
Criteria for the tie-break of candidates:
- Interview: in order to give a cycle of dispatches between the candidates, be valued to a scientific voltage of the student, to manifest itself through discussions on the proposed theme.
- As other valuation factors will be considered the student’s interest in the area.
