FTIR TutorialThis tutorial will show you how to measure an FTIR spectrum in transmission mode.
This is the simplest, and most widely used sampling mode. It simply involves placing the sample in the infrared beam, and the sample absorbs infrared at its' characteristic frequencies.
An important factor is in transmission FTIR is PATHLENGTH. If the pathlength through the sample is too long, all the infrared will be absorbed and you will get no spectrum, or a SATURATED SPECTRUM.
Optimum pathlength for transmission is usually about 40 micrometers.
