GreenUPorto researchers guide finalists in the innovative food competition ECOTROPHELIA Portugal 2024
Two of the eight finalist teams for the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal 2024 Award are guided by GreenUPorto researchers
GreenUPorto researchers Luís M. Cunha and Susana Caldas Fonseca, professors at the Faculty of Sciences of the U.Porto at the Department of Geosciences, Environment, and Spatial Planning, guided the participation of 2 of the 8 finalist teams for the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal 2024 Award, which distinguishes the best proposals for eco-innovative food products from Higher Education students.
The team of Ana Boticas and Bárbara Meira, students of the Master’s Degree in Technology and Food Science, presents AlphaBean, a chocolate bar composed of cocoa, carob, and fermented chickpeas, developed in collaboration with colleagues from the Porto Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração.
The other finalist innovative food product consists of Fusion Rolls, dehydrated fruit rolls, sustainable, nutritious, and ideal for a healthy snack, developed by Mariana Fonseca, from the Masters in Consumer Sciences and Nutrition (FCUP and FCNAUP), with the contribution of the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia da Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Universidade Lusíada do Porto..
The final competition of the 8th edition of the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal Award will take place on July 12th, at the Porto Alfândega Congress Center.
