GreenUPorto integrates new international project to improve soil health
Vineyards, olive groves, apples, chestnuts and hazelnuts are permanent crops of great economic value that will be the subject of study and improvement at the soil level, in the new project that includes a team from the U.Porto.
The University of Porto team on the project, led by researchers from GreenUPorto and the Faculty of Sciences of the U.Porto, and also including researchers from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the U.Porto, has just seen approved the new project LivingSoiLL: Healthy Soil to Permanent Crops Living Labs, within which they intend to create and monitor Living Laboratories throughout Europe, creating test spaces for innovative solutions to promote the conservation and restoration of soil health.
The project, recently approved by Horizon Europe’s Soil Mission, obtained a global funding of 12 million euros and includes 42 European partners in Portugal, France, Spain, Italy and Poland, as well as 8 associated partners.
The project is coordinated by the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and includes entities such as the University of Vigo, ADVID – Association for the Development of Duriense Viticulture – Vine and Wine Cluster and CoLAB VINES&WINES, as well as companies such as SOGRAPE Vinhos, Acushla, SA – Azeite Biológico, Fertiprado Lda, Sogevinus Fine Wines, S.A., Symington Family Estates, Real Companhia Velha, among others, together with producer associations such as APPITAD – Associação dos Produtores Em Protecção Integrada De Trás-os-montes And Alto Douro.
